The Knesset plenum is expected to vote today (Wednesday) on the 'Muezzin Law' proposal by MK Zvika Fogel of Otzma Yehudit.
The proposal will be put to a vote before the first reading vote on the 'Basic Law: Torah Study' - which will put to the test the understandings that were forged, according to opposition sources, between MK Moshe Gafni and MK Ahmed Tibi.
According to the claims, the ultra-Orthodox parties will not advance the Muezzin Law, and in return, Arab Knesset members will be excluded from legislation that is important to the ultra-Orthodox factions.
However, according to the Shas announcement, it appears that the Haredi parties are splitting: Shas will support the 'Muezzin Law', while United Torah Judaism will be absent.
A Shas spokesperson said: "The Shas faction will vote today in favor of the Muezzin Law, as it already supported in 2017. Shas expresses regret that Minister Ben Gvir did not also bring forward the law today to prevent Red Cross visits to Nuhba terrorists - and thus Shas would have supported it and brought it to approval.".
Shas added: "As you may recall, Minister Ben Gvir insisted on bringing the law up for a vote on Monday, despite Shas' request to bring it up today and ensure its approval. It seems that Ben Gvir was intent on defeating the law in order to garner votes by attacking his partners in the right-wing bloc. Very unfortunate.".
