As part of a joint operation by the Israel Police and the General Security Service, and following indications from international security bodies, a 20-year-old American citizen was arrested on June 9 on suspicion of having contact with a foreign agent and harming state security.
The findings of the investigation, which was conducted under a blanket publication ban order by the Jerusalem District's central unit, revealed that over the past few months the suspect had been in contact with operators on behalf of Iranian intelligence agencies.
The suspect performed various tasks, which included documenting and photographing sensitive sites.
In exchange for performing these tasks, the suspect received a payment of tens to hundreds of dollars for each task.
The suspect's detention was extended from time to time in court according to the needs of the investigation.
With the conclusion of the police investigation and the formation of an evidentiary infrastructure, a prosecutor's statement was submitted to the court today (Tuesday) regarding the intention to file an indictment against him in the coming days, along with a request to detain him until the end of the legal proceedings.
