Galit Hazut, the mother of Captain David Hazut, who fell in battle in Lebanon, gave an interview to "Kelman Lieberman" on Channel 2 this morning (Monday): "It's not easy, I had an only son. He chose Golani, he wanted Golani.".
Galit added: "He said - 'Mom, if something has to happen - it will happen. It won't matter where, if it's in Judea and Samaria, if it's on the road... When God wants to take - He takes.' And he took him there. He asked me two weeks ago that if something happens to him, I will continue living.".
Captain David Hazut, 21, from Ashkelon, a platoon commander in the 12th Battalion of the Golani Brigade, was killed yesterday in a clash with terrorists in southern Lebanon. David was laid to rest yesterday at the military cemetery in Ashkelon. He is survived by his mother and sister.
Galit told about her concern for her son: "There was an event that happened near him and he evacuated the two people who were killed in Petah Tikva and he handled the event. But he told me, 'Mom, only those who are there understand what it takes to be there. I have a lot of questions, it doesn't make sense, it doesn't make sense, but there's nothing to be done. I promised him on the grave that I would continue on his path.
""The point that hurt him the most was seeing his soldiers," Galit said. "Before the last departure, he left after five weeks and went home to make some urgent home visits. David planned to marry his partner after his release, and spoke about enlisting in the Shin Bet: "He had plans for everything. But the Creator of the Universe has his own plans that I still can't understand. He said the Shin Bet, the security system, spoke to him. I promised him on my grave to continue on his path.".
Galit explained that for her, continuing David's path means taking care of the soldiers who are in need: "For those who don't have food at home, who don't have a mattress to sleep on, who don't have a dining area, who don't have anywhere to eat and drink. To take care of them. And that's what I will do. There will not be a soldier who returns after five weeks in Lebanon, and sleeps on a mattress. That won't happen as long as I'm his mother.".
