The Ministry of Transportation today (Thursday) published for public comment the postponement of the update to public transportation fares that was expected to go into effect on July 1, in accordance with an agreement between Minister of Transportation Miri Regev and the Minister of Finance.
This means: the planned price increase will not take effect this year, and fares will remain unchanged until the end of 2026.
The move is part of the Ministry of Transportation's policy to encourage a shift to public transportation, ease the cost of living, and reduce the economic burden on millions of citizens who depend on public transportation for work, school, and daily life. This is alongside the expansion of benefits to eligible populations as part of the "Transportation Justice" reform and an unprecedented investment in improving service and developing transportation infrastructure across the country.
At the same time, Minister Regev is working with the Ministry of Finance to cancel the mechanism for automatically linking public transportation fares to the CPI, with the aim of preventing future price increases, strengthening certainty for the traveling public, and ensuring stability in travel prices over time.
Regev: "We pledged that there would be no further price increases in public transportation in 2026 - and we have kept our promise. Public transportation is an essential service for millions of citizens, and we will continue to work for transportation justice, fight the cost of living, and improve service to the traveling public throughout the country.".
