Republican Senator Lindsey Graham sharply criticized President Donald Trump this evening (Sunday) for his outburst at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - over the Israeli attack on Dahiyya - and expressed support for Israel's right to defend itself against threats from Hezbollah and Iran.
Graham, considered one of Trump's closest allies in Washington, wrote that while he hopes a diplomatic solution will be found that will prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and stop its "reign of terror in the region," one must remember who one is dealing with.
Graham noted that since the last ceasefire, Hezbollah has not stopped its attacks against Israel, and the threat continues in the northern region.
""What would America do in a similar situation?" Graham wondered.
He emphasized: "Hezbollah is funded and run by Iran and has a large amount of American blood on its hands. It is clear to me that regardless of what agreement we sign with Iran, Hezbollah's ambitions to destroy Israel and make Lebanon part of the caliphate have not fundamentally changed.".
The senator concluded by praying for peace and protection for the United States and the State of Israel, and warned against over-reliance on diplomatic agreements without taking into account the ongoing threats on the ground.
Conservative Jewish journalist and Trump confidant, Mark Levin, also published the president's remarks and wrote: "I had to read that twice.".
He later added: "Today's missile attacks on Israel by Hezbollah, under the direction of its masters in the Iranian regime, hours before the signing of the (as yet unpublished) memorandum, underscore that these terrorist groups have no intention of complying with any agreement. And Hezbollah and Iran undoubtedly get the impression that they can attack Israel like this, since pressure is being exerted on Israel to accept such a fate so that it will not be labeled as an aggressor. It seems that the Israelis, the Lebanese people, and the Iranian people will have to continue to deal with the atrocities of these terrorists. Prove me wrong.".
Earlier, Trump expressed outrage following the attack carried out this morning in Beirut and called for an end to the escalation in the region.
