This evening (Monday), fanatics blocked traffic routes, set fire to the light rail construction site in the Bar Ilan Junction area in Jerusalem, and disrupted public order.
A police officer declared a disturbance and ordered the protesters to evacuate the roadway, and after they, as expected, did not comply with the police's instructions, the forces began to evacuate them using force and threw stun grenades.
As a result of the police action, a large portion of the troublemakers were pushed to the sidewalk, and all the roads were opened to traffic.
Later, detectives from the Lev Habira police station arrested two suspects on suspicion of causing damage to the light rail works complex. The two were taken for questioning at the police station.
The police say they will "act resolutely to bring the suspects and everyone who took part in the vandalism, damaged public infrastructure, and disrupted the normal fabric of life in the city to justice.".
The police also stated that "this is a serious incident in which rioters resorted to violence and directed it towards public infrastructure that is supposed to serve all residents of the city. These acts of vandalism, which include causing intentional damage to property and disrupting major traffic arteries, constitute a direct violation of the proper fabric of life and harm public safety and property.".
The police added that they "view seriously the violent riot of the rioters, who set fire to bins, damage infrastructure and in the process directly harm the residents of the area. This is not how a protest is held. We will use all means to disperse the rioters in order to restore and maintain public order.".
