Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa announced today (Wednesday) that they will resume their operations in Israel starting June 1. This follows the easing of the recommendation of the European Union's Aviation Safety Agency.
Wizz Air also announced that it will resume its operations to and from Israel starting May 28 - a move that constitutes an important step in reconnecting Israel with key destinations in Europe.
Due to the expected high demand, Wizz Air announced that it will operate routes from various countries in Europe, including London, Budapest, Bucharest, Larnaca, Warsaw, Milan, Rome and more.
Yesterday, the European Agency extended its recommendation not to fly to Israel and the Gulf countries until May 27.
Alongside this, the wording of the recommendation has been updated and the guidance is now for "increased caution" and ongoing risk assessment in the event of a flight to the Middle East.
This is another update to the recommendation that was extended two weeks ago until May 1. The guidance is given in the shadow of ongoing tensions in the Gulf and the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
Some European airlines have independently canceled their arrivals to Israel. Wizz Air also recently announced the cancellation of its flights to Israel until further notice.
