Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced this morning (Thursday) that he decided to appoint his associate Israel Malachi, who has served for the past three and a half years as Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Finance and as a member of the ministry's management, as Director General of the Ministry of Finance.

Malachi, 49 years old, has in-depth knowledge of the Ministry of Finance in its various departments and rich experience in government work, local government, the third sector, and the interfaces between them.

He has deep knowledge of regulatory areas and complex governmental and parliamentary processes.

In his role as Deputy Director General, Malachi served as the Director General's right-hand man and led, on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, the rehabilitation of the surrounding settlements in the south and the reconstruction of the north after the war, and also led the areas of local government in cooperation with professional elements in the ministry and other government ministries.

In the past, Israel Malachi served as treasurer of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, as a member of the KKL-JNF board of directors, and as a member of the organization's finance committee.

Minister Smotrich said: "What the Ministry of Finance and the Israeli economy need now is stability and functional continuity. The appointment of Israel Malachi as Director General of the Ministry is natural and necessary, a direct continuation of his role as Deputy Director General, which he is performing to the best of his ability, with great talent and success.".

""Israel Malachi is a first-rate professional who has contributed greatly to the work of the ministry so far, and he brings with him significant familiarity with the ministry's work in its various departments. I am certain that, together with the excellent management background at the Ministry of Finance, he will know how to lead the work with professionalism and dedication for the success of the State of Israel and all Israeli citizens.".

Malachi's appointment will be submitted for government approval in the near future, after approval by the Appointments Committee at the Civil Service Commission.
