Firefighters from the Binyamin area worked this evening (Saturday night) on a fire that broke out in an apartment on Shaagat Aryeh Street in the city of Modiin Illit.

The forces immediately began operations to extinguish the fire and search for trapped people. During the firefighters' activities in the apartment, a trapped person was rescued in a minor condition and was taken to receive medical treatment.

Lieutenant Commander Roni Yaakov, commander of the Matityahu station: "We were called to a fire that broke out in an apartment. When we arrived at the scene, we detected a lot of smoke and the residents of the building reported to us that there was a fire in the apartment on the second floor. The firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and rescue a person trapped in the apartment.".

"A preliminary investigation indicates that the source of the fire was several electric scooters that started to burn.""

Lahav Ezra Emek, the shift commander, adds life-saving rules:

""Every year, hundreds of houses burn down as a result of lithium battery fires, and in some incidents, there are casualties. Therefore, when charging a battery, the following rules must be observed:

The battery of an electric scooter/bike should be charged on the balcony or in the yard of the house in a shaded place.

The battery should be charged with supervision and not while you are sleeping.

Make sure to buy a battery with a standard label and do not make any modifications to the scooter or bicycle.

Install a smoke detector that alerts in real time if a fire breaks out.

In case of a fire, dial 102 for the firefighters!
