The late Rabbi Zvi Yitzhak Adler was born in Tel Aviv on the 23rd of Tishrei 571 to his father, the late Rabbi Zvi Yitzhak Adler, who was a prayer leader and a kosher man. From an early age, his voice was clear, and he began his musical journey in the choir of the renowned cantor Shlomo Ravitz.

In his youth, he studied at the small yeshiva 'Chafetz Chaim' in Kfar Saba with Maran Rosh Ha-Yashvi, the late Gerail Steinman, and then continued his studies at the Hebron Yeshiva in Jerusalem. He received his cantorship training from his rabbi, Cantor Leib Glantz, from whom he adopted the special emphasis on the words of the prayer.

When he reached his peak, he married his wife, Mrs. Shoshana, daughter of the late Rabbi Simcha Yaakov Helfgot.

For decades, he served as a cantor in renowned communities around the world: first, he served as cantor at the Ichud Shivt Zion synagogue in Tel Aviv, and later immigrated to the United States, where he served for about 15 years as cantor at the Yisrael HaTza'ir synagogue in the Forest Hills neighborhood of Queens, New York. He then moved to London, where he served as cantor at the Great Synagogue in Finchley. He also served for about a decade as cantor at the Ahavat Torah synagogue in Inglewood, New Jersey, alongside cantorial positions in Toronto.

Upon his return to Israel in the early 2000s, he was appointed chief cantor of the Great Synagogue in Tel Aviv, and in 2009 he was appointed chief cantor of the Great Synagogue in Jerusalem, a position he held until 2015.

His deep, lyrical tenor voice, along with his moving and precise prayer style, made him one of the central figures in the world of cantorism in the last generation. As a cantor, he was known for his adherence to the words of the prayer and his heartfelt intention.

Alongside his duties as a cantor in synagogues, he has appeared in many concerts around the world and recorded unique albums of Radomsk and Modzic Hasidic tunes. He has also appeared at the Daf Yomi Siyum Shas gatherings.

For his work in the field of cantorship and spreading the awareness of prayer, he was awarded the 'Jerusalem Prize' and the 'Tel Aviv-Yafo City Honorary Award'.

In 2002, a comprehensive autobiography about his life was published entitled "Chaim Adler: Chief Cantor.".
