Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Yair Lapid held a security update meeting today (Monday), in the presence of the head of the IDF Planning Department and the head of the National Security Council, during which Netanyahu sought to convince him to politically support the opening of the Defense Budget Law in order to pass more significant budgets.

But Lapid took advantage of the opportunity to incite against the ultra-Orthodox public.

After the meeting, Lapid's office issued a statement: "As part of a security update between Netanyahu and Lapid, Netanyahu requested to open the budget law in order to transfer more funds to the defense system.".

According to the statement, "Lapid replied to him during the meeting: 'I am in favor of the proposal and support the transfer of funds, because the IDF needs to be strengthened, but the budgetary source cannot be the tax increase for the middle class and reserve soldiers that you are leading to.'".

'"Instead, include in the proposal a cancellation of the corrupt coalition funds and the tens of billions of shekels that you are transferring today to finance the Haredi evasion - and we will support the proposal in the Knesset as well.".

Likud responded to the accusation: "Lapid is misleading the public about the defense budget. Lapid's claims are unfounded and false.

""State revenues were higher than expected due to the government's economic policy, and as a result, the deficit is also lower than expected. Under these circumstances, the defense budget can be increased without any tax increases.".

Likud added: "The argument about coalition funds and budgets for the Haredi sector is also unfounded. There have never been such amounts for coalition funds and the Haredi sector, and not even close to them.".

""Lapid is abandoning the security of the State of Israel because of cheap political considerations.".

Lapid's office responded to the Likud announcement, continuing the incitement: "The Likud is once again lying and abandoning the security of the state. As was said in a closed room, in the presence of IDF representatives - Lapid supports transferring funds to the defense system. The IDF must be given all the necessary tools to complete its missions.

""Lapid insists on his demand that the budgetary source for these funds will not come from raising taxes and increasing the burden on the working and serving public, but rather at the expense of the corrupt coalition funds and the billions that are transferred every year to finance Haredi evasion.".

[1
379,384,32315,181,62132
post-1063914","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-1","tag-379","tag-384","tag-32315","tag-181","tag-62132
