The IDF confirmed this evening (Tuesday) that the head of Hamas' internal security apparatus in the Gaza Strip, Mu'in al-Arabid, was kidnapped - and arrested.

Hamas' internal security apparatus is responsible for thwarting espionage attempts and locating Palestinian elements suspected of aiding or collaborating with Israel.

The IDF spokesman's statement said: "The IDF and Shin Bet launched a targeted operation earlier today to eliminate threats from the Hamas terrorist organization in the northern Gaza Strip. As part of the operation, Shin Bet special forces raided a building in Gaza City and arrested the head of internal security for the Hamas terrorist organization in the entire Gaza Strip.".

""During the raid, the Air Force targeted several military targets in the area with the aim of removing threats to the forces. There were no casualties among our forces.".

""The terrorist who was arrested recently worked to establish the control of the Hamas terrorist organization in the northern Gaza Strip, and to promote terrorist plots against IDF forces operating in the Yellow Line area. The terrorist was transferred for further investigation by security forces on the territory of the State of Israel.".

""The activity is intended to remove threats, harm Hamas' control of the region and its plan to promote terrorist acts against IDF forces and citizens of the State of Israel.".

According to security information, Al-Arabid has recently been working to strengthen the terrorist organization's position and control in the northern part of the Gaza Strip, along with planning and executing plans to attack IDF fighters operating in the Yellow Line area.

Upon completion of the evacuation of the building, the terrorist was transferred for further security questioning in Israeli territory.

Newly released details indicate that fighters from a special unit of the General Security Service were behind the kidnapping of the senior terrorist.

The operation, which was conducted under the Southern Command, lasted several hours and was accompanied by targeted airstrikes by the Air Force to secure the fighters. At the end of the operation, Al-Arabid was captured wounded and immediately evacuated to the territory of the State of Israel.

The secret role of a senior Hamas official captured in the Gaza Strip

According to a report in Kan News, in recent weeks the Shin Bet has managed to locate the location of Hamas' internal security chief, Mu'ayan Muhammad al-Arabid, in a building in western Gaza City.

In Israel, they initially considered eliminating him from the air, but in recent weeks it became clear that he could be brought to Israel for questioning in a special operation by the Shin Bet and the Southern Command in the heart of the city.

Al-Arabid was wounded in the operation, but is conscious and communicating. He is being treated in an Israeli hospital, and according to security sources, he is shocked by the fact that he was kidnapped from Gaza.

During the operation, four Palestinians were killed, including his wife and son.

The operation was planned for many months and was directed by the Shin Bet's Special Operations Headquarters. According to reports, militias that operate in cooperation with Israel also participated in the operation.

Security sources said that al-Arabid is a veteran Hamas terrorist who joined the organization in the 1990s. The decision to kidnap him was made because he was involved in the organization's reconstruction and was one of the factors that thwarted Hamas's disarmament.

The operation was approved in recent days by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz. Israeli sources say that the operation, which was supposed to remain under the radar, was intended not only to bring intelligence but also to create a "sense of persecution" among senior Hamas figures.

Al-Arabid was considered a high-quality target for arrest because he posed a danger to local militias coordinated with Israel as Hamas's Gaza militia portfolio holder. He was responsible for several other areas of the organization and holds a wealth of information.

Rasan Dhaini, head of the Abu Shabaab militia, is the Palestinian figure who participated in the kidnapping operation. The militia he heads has the most resources compared to the other militias that operate in coordination with Israel, and it also has a power base in Gaza City, not just Rafah.

The forces arrived at the apartment where Al-Arabid was staying with his family, in the Al-Khatiba area in the west of the city. An exchange of fire broke out there, and he was wounded. He was removed from the scene after the exchange of fire.

"He was responsible for hiding and transporting our hostages."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the incident and stated that the arrest was carried out by the IDF and Shin Bet "in a bold operation" near Al-Arabid's home.

Netanyahu added and revealed: "He is one of the most senior Hamas leaders, and was responsible for hiding and transporting our hostages, hiding senior Hamas figures, and building the force and attempting to restore the terrorist organization's capabilities. Recently, he has been involved in attempts to restore Hamas' governance in Gaza, in deception on the issue of demilitarization of the Strip, and has assisted in carrying out terrorist acts against our forces and citizens.".

Al-Arabid served as deputy to the previous commander of the apparatus, and after his elimination, he was appointed to head the apparatus.

From an intelligence perspective, his arrest may be particularly significant, due to the fact that he holds a broad picture of Hamas from the inside, and due to his close acquaintance with Hamas' secret organization, its methods of thwarting, its people, and the investigations it conducted.

[24
4971,10815,2245,1089,66518
post-1063165","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-24","tag-4971","tag-10815","tag-2245","tag-1089","tag-66518
