Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri arrived today (Thursday) at the home of the leader of the Shas party, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, to sign the agreement between the parties, in an attempt to calm the tensions surrounding the question of the leadership of the Shas movement.

A statement from the house of Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef after the meeting said: "Shas Chairman Rabbi Aryeh Deri went to the residence of Maran Rishon LeZion, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, with a personal and dramatic letter sent by the elder member of the Council of Torah Sages, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Maya.".

""In the letter, the Grand Master Maya emphasized that Shas has preserved and is preserving the legacy of Maran Posk Hador, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt"l, and that the Chief Rabbi, by virtue of being the successor to his father, whom he crowned before his passing, will be the guide and mentor of Maran zt"l's legacy in the Shas movement and its institutions.

""The council elder asked Maran to take on the burden of guiding and guiding the legacy and leadership of Maran Rabbeinu ZIA among the representatives of the movement and its institutions.".

""In his letter, the Grand Rabbi Maya also referred to the chairman of Shas, MK Rabbi Aryeh Deri, and wrote: 'We are blessed that he relied on his family's trustee in all public affairs, a rabbi who establishes a Torah oleh, a revolutionary in Sephardic Jewry, Rabbi Rabbi Aryeh Deri, the chairman of the Shas movement, and entrusted him with the reins of leadership of the holy movement, and he stands in the face of all those who seek to diminish the power of the Torah and the holiness of the Jewish people, both in decrees and persecutions against yeshiva students and in other matters.'".

The statement also said: "The Maran Rashaltz emphasized in his words the duty of the hour, saving the Torah and the yeshiva students is the Maran's legacy and it is an obligation to mobilize for the sake of the Torah students.".

Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's house claims that in fact, at this morning's meeting, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef was appointed the spiritual leader of the party - 13 years after the passing of his father.

However, the official Shas refuses to be briefed on the meeting - and the letter from the Grand Master Maya has not been officially published.

Haaretz journalist Aharon Rabinowitz wrote about the meeting: During the meeting, Deri handed Rabbi Yosef a letter from the elder of the Council of Elders, Rabbi Moshe Maya, stating that Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef is the successor to his father and as such he will guide and instruct the Shas representatives 'on the legacy of Maran.' At the same time, the letter noted that Rabbi Ovadia had entrusted the reins of the party's leadership to Aryeh Deri.

""My interpretation: On paper, an agreement on joint leadership, in practice, because there is no trust between the two sides, the next explosion is only a matter of time.".

According to the summaries between the parties, Shas will demand the enactment of a conscription law before the next government is sworn in. In addition, the Council of Torah Sages will meet every few weeks.

The backdrop for the reconciliation efforts is the opening of the Shas party's election campaign - scheduled for tonight at an activists' conference in Holon. Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef is expected to participate.

Deri understood that without the public support of Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, his chances of rising in the polls, which predict only seven seats for the party, were not very difficult.

Let us recall that Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef did not rule out, in internal talks, sitting in a coalition under Gadi Eisenkot.

[1
864,489,234
post-1062140","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-1","tag-864","tag-489","tag-234
