Degel Hatorah Chairman, MK Moshe Gafni, harshly attacked Attorney Gali Bahar-Miara, following her decisions on Haredi education, claiming that she is acting out of a personal agenda and interfering in issues that are up to the elected echelon to decide.

""Who put Bahar-Miara in charge of deciding everything in the country according to her own agenda?" Gafni wondered. "An elected government is not allowed to make decisions during an election period, the Knesset is restricted in its ability to legislate, but a dismissed attorney general is allowed to decide on her own how children in ultra-Orthodox schools will be educated and what they will learn?".

According to him, if the state seeks to intervene in the curriculum of ultra-Orthodox educational institutions, a similar principle should be applied to the entire education system.

""If she seeks to determine what children in ultra-Orthodox education should learn, then I demand to the same extent that all children of Israel learn the 313 commandments, the tradition of Israel, Torah, Prophets and Writings, and Gemara, and whoever does not learn all of these will not receive funding.".

Gafni added: "Herav-Miyara crossed all boundaries. In a democratic country, decisions are made by elected officials, not according to the opinion of one woman who has no idea about Torah and Judaism and acts as if the entire country is under her control.".

He emphasized that Haredi education will continue to exist regardless of the identity of the officials in the legal system. "Haredi education was here long before Rabbi Meara and will continue to exist long after her. It will continue on its path, as the Jewish people have been educated for generations. She will pass away - and Haredi education will remain. And in the history of the Jewish people she will be remembered as one who tried to harm everything holy and precious to us and failed.".

He said, "This decision proves what we have been saying all along - all the issues that are being put on the agenda, from the recruitment of yeshiva students, through core studies and the introduction of heretical content into the Haredi education system, to many other decisions against the Haredi public, do not deal only with this or that issue. The goal is to change our lifestyles and make us secular. Whatever happens, it will not happen!

""The Haredi public will continue to preserve its faith, its education, and the path of the Torah as it has done for generations, and this plot will not succeed either.""

On Friday, Gali Baharav Meyara announced to the High Court of Justice that the continued budgeting of the Haredi education networks by virtue of the principle of "all the children of Israel" will from now on be contingent on meeting the basic obligations that apply to the network institutions, primarily full core studies, as stipulated in the basic curriculum of official education.

In addition to core studies, the conditions include employing appropriately trained teaching staff, full participation in measurement and evaluation systems, cooperation with supervisory and enforcement mechanisms, and compliance with reporting obligations.

According to her position, the requirements will apply as early as the current school year.

[1
59361,1126
post-1061680","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-1","tag---2","tag-1126
