Members of the Jerusalem faction demonstrated this evening (Tuesday) in front of a conference exposing ultra-Orthodox tracks in the IDF, which took place on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before the fair began, a message was sent to the protest organizations' news feeds, asking members of the "fragment" to come to the conference and protest against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the conference, Brigadier General (res.) Ofer Winter spoke. The protesters arrived at the scene after the event had already ended and were unable to disrupt its progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the participants left the hall, the demonstrators shouted slogans of protest at them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Winter was also subjected to chants from the protesters. "You touch the Torah! Inciter and slanderer! A heretic! An infidel! You have no part in Judaism, Ofer Winter, you have no part in Judaism," shouted one of the protesters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Winter replied: "You have no part, certainly none." The protester continued to shout: "Traitor to Judaism. Vile traitor, traitor to the Jewish people!". <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A large police force was deployed to secure the event. The officers stood between the demonstrators and the conference participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Winter responded after being attacked: "I had the privilege of speaking tonight to dozens of young men from the Haredi community who are interested in serving in a meaningful way during the Career Fair. This is a wonderful and pioneering youth who represent a significant portion of the Haredi community. I feel sorry for the delusional extremist handful of the 'Jerusalem faction' who do not represent the Haredi and who harm the entire Haredi community. They will not deter me from continuing my efforts to continue to help work to integrate the Haredi community in a manner that it deserves in the IDF.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said, "Extremists should be dealt with harshly, without harming the world of Torah. I respect the world of Torah and those who study it, and I am not frightened by the delusional handful who, instead of studying Torah, nullify Torah and harm the Haredi public. I would recommend that the military police mobilize those who pursued me this evening. They are certainly not Torah students.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
According to a report on the Ynet website, in addition to Winter, the protesters also pursued media consultant Rafi Flerstein, who was suspected of being a 'recruit' - and was attacked outside the conference. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
