Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the left-wing Yashar party, is already formulating a plan for the day after the elections, in the event that the left-wing bloc does not achieve a majority that would allow the formation of a government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a report by Amit Segal on Channel 12, Eisenkot's stated goal is a government of 63-64 Knesset members, but the strategy he formulated is also intended to deal with a scenario of 59 seats or less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the heart of the plan is a threshold condition that Eisenkot does not intend to compromise on: a conscription or national service law for everyone. From his perspective, a party that does not accept this condition without reservation will not be part of the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The goal for Eisenkot is to achieve a Zionist majority among the recommenders to the president of the state, even when removing Arab Knesset members and the United Torah Judaism faction from the vote count. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His view is that a majority of 61 Knesset members does not provide the stability he seeks, and therefore the goal is to reach 63 or 64 Knesset members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rigid approach was also expressed in relation to the response of RAAM Chairman Mansour Abbas, who said at a conference in the south that he would agree to a conscription law, but added his own conditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Eisenkot, an answer of "yes, but" is considered a "no," and any attempt to negotiate the threshold conditions means that the party does not meet them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the plan, a situation will not arise in which a representative from these parties will be able to claim that Eisenkot or someone on his behalf asked him to abstain, leave the hall, or support the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The third section of the plan is to try to form a government that will survive, with the hope that later members of Knesset from the Likud will join it. The strategy is based on the assessment of the plan's planners that Netanyahu's departure from the Prime Minister's Office will change the political map. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
