The fast of Tisha B'Av commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Temples and other difficult events that befell the Jewish people throughout the ages, including the destruction of the city of Betar, which was one of the largest cities in the Land of Israel in the days after the destruction. Due to the great tribulation of the destruction of the Temple, the fast of Tisha B'Av is more severe than all other fasts in that it is prohibited in all five of the Yom Kippur fasts: the prohibition of eating and drinking, the prohibition of washing, the prohibition of anointing (with perfume), the prohibition of wearing sandals, and the prohibition of using the bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
