Media personality Yael Shevach, a resident of Havat Gilad and widow of Rabbi Raziel Shevach, spoke this morning (Sunday) about the moment she was informed that her house had been completely burned down in a fire that struck the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the time of the incident, she was staying with her children in Kfar Saba, and her friend informed her about what had happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\""A good friend came to tell me that the house had burned down completely. It's a small kindness that we weren't inside this thing," she said in an interview with the Ynet website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said, "Families were evacuated just as the house started to catch fire. It was so fast. There was a strong wind and it was very hot. It was brutal and violent.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shevah described her situation after losing all her possessions: "I have nothing. I have no socks. I have no handkerchief. I wear my mother's clothes and I took my sister-in-law's makeup.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She thanked the people who quickly came forward to help. "From the very beginning, we haven't stopped receiving donations and invitations to all sorts of places. 'We have this apartment, we have this house, and what about you and how are you?' and a lot of concern. It's just amazing.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said that although the incident is still being investigated, she believes it was a nationalistic arson attack: "We are treating this as a nationalistic incident. Even if it wasn't, then 5 minutes after the Gilad farm went up in flames, fireworks, shouts of joy and encouragement from the nearby villages had already started.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The community currently has no water or electricity, 13 houses were completely destroyed, 24 houses were damaged, and all residents were evacuated. She expressed concern about the difficulty of rehabilitation because, according to her, many of the families are uninsured, since the community has not yet received official recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the loss, Shevah made it clear that her family intends to return to the settlement: "We will return and build our house and start over. I know us. We know how to recover from difficult crises. We have already done it once. It will not be easy, but it will happen.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She added that the greatest pain is the loss of the mementos from her late husband and his books. "In the end, I don't have anything left of Raziel. He was a mohel and all our equipment burned. I don't have any pictures. My mother painted, and every year she paints a picture of my husband and we hang them on the walls of the house and everything just burns. It's material, but these are things we can't restore.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Firefighters from the Judea and Samaria region continue to operate at the scene of the fire that broke out yesterday at the Gilad Farm. According to the Fire and Rescue Department, 24 houses were damaged in the incident, 13 of which were completely burned down, and a wood shed also caught fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fire started near the Mitzpe Yishai neighborhood in Kedumim and quickly spread toward Havat Gilad due to the strong winds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investigation into the giant fire is focused on a discarded cigarette that is believed to have started the fire.
