National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir continues to promote his plan to place crocodiles around prisons where Nuhba terrorists are incarcerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following Minister Ben Gvir's appeal, Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman signed a proclamation today (Thursday) that defines crocodiles as "tended wildlife.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The official announcement means that security agencies such as the IPS will be able to launch a pilot program and keep crocodiles on their territory, while guaranteeing their safety and ensuring suitable conditions for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current move comes about six months after Ben-Gvir proposed adopting President Trump's crocodile-surrounded prison model and establishing one around a security prison where Nuhba terrorists are imprisoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prison Service mobilized to promote the idea and began extensive headquarters work, in which they carried out a series of inspections and professional tours of zoos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of the tests, the IPS concluded that establishing a prison surrounded by canals and crocodiles significantly reduces ongoing security costs, while at the same time creating a significant deterrent against escape attempts by security prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After Minister Ben Gvir gave his approval to move towards a practical pilot, which includes planning, construction, and creating adequate safety and environmental conditions for keeping the fearsome animal, the authorities encountered a legal obstacle: the existing law states that the green crocodile is defined as a protected wild animal, a definition that prohibits its keeping outside the boundaries of licensed zoos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To overcome the legal obstacle, a creative solution was formulated based on using the declaration of a wild animal as a domesticated animal - one that can be kept for commercial purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This type of declaration existed legally in Israel until 2013 and allowed the killing of crocodiles for economic purposes. Now it has been decided to adapt it to the security needs of the State of Israel, while limiting the wording to possession only and only for authorized security bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
