The law, which was approved on second and third readings, eliminates the situation created following a High Court ruling, which prevented the existence of separate study tracks in advanced degrees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is a law of broad practical significance, as a master's degree and advanced degrees are in many cases threshold conditions for professional advancement, integration into senior positions, and competing in tenders in the civil service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To this day, the situation has created a significant barrier for thousands of Haredim men and women who sought to acquire advanced education without giving up their lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The law was born from the initiative of the Lobby for Haredi and Religious Women, which was founded and headed by MK Limor Sun Har Melech. The lobby's goal is to promote Haredi women - however, Haredi members of Knesset do not participate in the lobby's activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As expected, after the law was approved, a petition was filed with the High Court of Justice demanding that it be invalidated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The chairman of the lobby for ultra-Orthodox and religious women, MK Limor Son Har Melech, responded: \u201cThe petition submitted against the law is not just about trying to stop the possibility of studying in separate tracks for advanced degrees. Anyone who reads the petition in depth cannot ignore the spirit that emerges from it, according to which the goal is not only to stop the expansion that I enacted last night, but to challenge the very legitimacy of separate studies in academia - even at the undergraduate level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
