Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama HaCohen sent a personal letter of apology and a cake today (Thursday) to an ultra-Orthodox worshipper who was attacked in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the man's testimony to Kol Berama, the incident occurred in the afternoon on Herzl Street in Ramat Gan, while he was waiting for a bus on his way home. He said that while talking on the phone with his brother-in-law, he moved to stand to the side so as not to disturb the passengers at the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At this point, he claims, a cyclist approached him and began shouting at him: "Haredi, what are you doing on this street? Go to Bnei Brak.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The young man said that he tried to move away from the scene and avoid a confrontation, but the attacker got off his bike and began hitting him with a beer bottle he was holding in his hand. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was beaten in the stomach and face, and later the attacker tried to break the bottle - while threatening him: "If I see you here for another five minutes, I'll come back and kill you.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The witness managed to record the suspect on his cell phone before he fled the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the incident took place on a busy street and near a bus stop where dozens of people were present, no one present intervened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Havrach added that he also felt disappointed with the handling of his case at the police station. He said that the investigator refused to immediately accept from him the suspect's photo that was saved on his device, and insisted that the photo be transferred only via a dedicated link - something he claimed made it difficult for him, since he had a kosher phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that he expects the police to act decisively to locate the suspect, including using the security cameras deployed in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his letter to the Avarach, Shama HaCohen wrote: "I was deeply shocked to hear about the revelation of the severe violence and threats that were heard against you on the streets of our city. An event of this kind stands in complete contradiction to the fundamental values \u200b\u200bof Ramat Gan. There is and will be no place for manifestations of hatred or discrimination in the city's public space.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
