The Yad L'Achim organization appealed to the Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir with a demand to immediately and permanently stop holding military events in the "Pavilion" conference hall at the Clal Center in Jerusalem - which belongs to the notorious missionary sect "Messianic Jews" and where regular and criminal missionary activity takes place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The appeal by Yad L'Achim came following documentation that the 607th Bomb Battalion held a unit conference at the location this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a letter sent by the organization's management to the Chief of Staff, it was stated that it would be unthinkable for the IDF to be a source of income and honor for those working to convert Jews to their religion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yad L'Achim notes that this is not an ordinary event hall, but rather a complex that is regularly used for prayers and Christian worship ceremonies of the Christian community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, Yad L'Achim warns that holding IDF events hurts the feelings of religious soldiers. The letter claims that paying for the use of the hall provides financial support and legitimacy to a body engaged in missionary activity. Continuing to hold events there is also a blatant violation of a commitment given by the IDF in the past, according to which no more events would be held there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter to the Chief of Staff, a copy of which was also sent to the Chief of Staff, stated: "We decided to contact you urgently and with deep concern, following information that has come to our attention, and is also documented in photographs, according to which IDF units, including recently the 607th 'Hamapetz' Battalion, are holding conferences and events for soldiers in the 'Pavilion' hall in Jerusalem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\""Unfortunately, it seems that the military officials who approved the holding of the events at the site are unaware of the true identity of the complex: the 'Pavilion' hall belongs to a community of "Messianic Jews," a Christian community that regularly holds Christian prayers and worship there, and conducts systematic missionary activity from there aimed at the Jewish community in Israel.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the organization, the seriousness of the matter is twofold. "First, a serious violation of observant soldiers. According to settled Jewish law, entry into a church and a place of Christian worship is strictly prohibited. A religious soldier invited to a unit meeting in this place is faced with an impossible situation: violating a clear halachic prohibition, or being absent from a unit event with all that this implies. This is a direct violation of the soldiers' freedom of religion and their basic right to serve in the IDF without encountering such a conflict, a right that the IDF itself is committed to in its orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mere existence of IDF events in the compound, with the payment involved, constitutes direct financial support for a missionary body, and gives it an official stamp of legitimacy from the Israel Defense Forces. There is no need to exaggerate the pain and shock that this arouses among a broad public in Israel, anxious for the spiritual integrity of the Jewish people in their country.
