About 441,000 ultra-Orthodox Jews are willing to study in mixed-sex classrooms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Spiritual decline in academia: <\/strong>Nearly half of the graduates of the Haredi education system will be willing to study in mixed classes in order to obtain the long-awaited degree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is according to a study conducted by the Tzafnet Institute for the Council for Higher Education (CHE) and the Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC), which was published on Channel 7.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study included a survey with the participation of 533 respondents and graduates of the Haredi education system, along with approximately 50 in-depth interviews with stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The vast majority of respondents (87%) believe that there is great or very great importance in having separate classes in therapeutic master&#039;s degrees. 69% of the respondents expressed a preference for programs specifically for the Haredi population with gender separation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, when gender segregation is considered as part of a set of personal considerations, the data moderates: only 48% cited it as one of the three main considerations in choosing a track - compared to 39% who chose the quality of professional training and 28% who chose flexible study times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a situation where there is no choice and no possibility of gender separation in classrooms: 44% of respondents rated that they would enroll or are considering enrolling in general and mixed classrooms. On the other hand, 42% would not enroll in non-separate tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The need for segregation also varies according to the nature of the learning component: personal instruction (personal meetings with a clinical supervisor) was ranked as the most important component for gender segregation, followed by group instruction. In contrast, theoretical classes and the gender of the supervisor in research work are considered components where segregation is less critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey also indicates the growing desire among the ultra-Orthodox public to benefit from higher education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most respondents (83%) are considering to a great extent or very much advanced studies in the field of therapy. 75% of the respondents indicated that they are seriously considering starting a master&#039;s degree in psychology in the therapeutic disciplines or in art therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a theoretical situation where all options were accepted: 61% would choose a master&#039;s degree in psychology, 32% a master&#039;s degree in art therapy, and only 7% would prefer non-academic therapeutic training. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the breakdown of preferred majors, clinical psychology is the most sought-after track - coveted by 72% of men and 42% of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lead researchers in the study, Ben Shalom Cohen, Dr. Moti Talias and Prof. Israel Katz, recommend: &quot;Prevent the expansion of the practice of gender separation to therapeutic master&#039;s degrees, as it appears that the dangers associated with the gender separation model outweigh the benefits expected from it, and the added value of this move is unclear.&quot;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers suggest focusing efforts on integrating Haredi students into existing general tracks, while building a supportive, comprehensive, and funded envelope program, instead of creating separate gender programs that create unnecessary duplication of response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, MK Zvi Sukkot, chairman of the Knesset Education, Culture and Sports Committee, claims that according to the National Council of Jewish Studies (NCYS) data, the last decade has seen a significant increase in the integration of the Haredi public into academia. However, the survey clearly indicates, he says, that the continuation of the trend depends on maintaining the possibility of gender-segregated studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MK Zvi Sukkot: \u201dThe data from the National Council of Jewish Students removes all doubt. Those who opposed the law in the name of \u201cequality\u201d actually sought to close the gates of academia to thousands of Haredim. The Haredi public is saying in the clearest terms: without adapted tracks and without gender separation \u2013 many will simply not attend school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"&quot;The law we have promoted does not impose anything on anyone, but rather expands freedom of choice and also allows those who wish to study according to their lifestyle to do so.
