Over the past few months, an investigation has been conducted in the central unit of the Traffic Division for fraud and the giving and receiving of bribes for passing vehicles with safety defects through the licensing test at the Ashdod Institute - without meeting the legal and safety requirements, and sometimes even without the vehicles reaching the licensing institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the affair and the transition to an open investigation, a few days ago, 6 suspects, examiners from a licensing institute in Ashdod, were arrested - and brought in for questioning, at the end of which they were imprisoned. Their detention was extended in court for an additional 8 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of a significant development in the investigation, suspicions arose that at the licensing institute in Ashdod, buses and shuttle vehicles belonging to the Sderot shuttle company were passed in the licensing test, fraudulently and while accepting and giving bribes, despite the life-threatening safety defects of the vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detectives from the Central Unit of the Traffic Division raided the offices of the transportation company in Sderot and arrested, among other things, the company's owner, who was suspected of being a central factor in the company's bribery scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, detectives detained 3 additional suspects, including another owner of the company, a partner in the company, and the company's safety officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a search of the transportation company in Sderot, in collaboration with the heavy vehicle unit of the Traffic Division - the only one of its kind in Israel, 5 buses were located in which the chassis number did not match the license plate number of the bus - and according to suspicion, this was the suspects' way of passing the transportation vehicles' licensing test, fraudulently, in exchange for money and at the expense of risking the lives of road users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, additional documents and evidence were seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The four suspects were brought in for questioning.
