Government Secretary, Attorney Yossi Fox, said today (Tuesday), during a discussion in the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on a proposal for a temporary order to freeze the arrests of 'deserters', that "the legal situation today is mandatory conscription for everyone, the sanctions will remain, according to the temporary order that is on the table - nothing will change from the current legal situation.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Referring to the supervision section, Fox said: "We need rapid supervision and the Ministry of Education will have to appoint many more supervisors.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fox noted that "it is likely that the arrests of the yeshiva students will be frozen for about six months, and not 3 months as written.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added: "I have criticism that the Haredi factions turned a blind eye to the young men who do not study in yeshiva.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
MK Meir Porush was furious at his words and responded: "Stop your nonsense" - and left the debate room in protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MK Yitzhak Goldknopf also criticized the government secretary. "It would be better for the government secretary to show a little more respect towards the yeshiva world and the Haredi public. The statement that the yeshiva administrators and Haredi factions are 'turning a blind eye', alongside the demand to increase the number of inspectors over the yeshiva world, as if these were the last of the criminals, is inappropriate, certainly not from someone who sits in the government thanks to the support of the Haredi factions.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of the discussion, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Boaz Bismut, said that the temporary order is a "blockade" intended to stop the deterioration caused, according to him, by the detention policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boaz Bismuth: "At the request of the Minister of Defense and the Cabinet Secretary, who approached the committee and presented to it the need for an urgent discussion in light of the difficulties posed by the arrest policy and its possible impact on expanding the ranks in the IDF, we are holding a discussion today on the temporary order regarding the freezing of criminal proceedings against Torah students.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
