The Knesset's Economics Committee approved today (Monday) the import reform "What's good for the US is good for Israel.".

The move constitutes another milestone in the Ministry of Economy and Industry's policy to reduce regulatory barriers, expand import routes and increase competition in the economy, and allows for the first time to import and market in Israel products manufactured in the United States or Israel, based on compliance with American regulatory requirements.

The reform expands the "What's good for Europe is good for Israel" reform, and adds an alternative track based on American regulation.

• Similar to the "What's good for Europe is good for Israel" reform, this reform will also be implemented in several phases. In the first phase, which will come into effect in early 2027, the track will include children's and baby products, including toys, bottles, drinking accessories and eating utensils for feeding babies and children, beds, cribs, swings, trampolines, strollers, children's bicycles, as well as cleaning products, laundry detergents, dishwasher detergents, and more...

Professional tests conducted by the Ministry of Economy and Industry indicate that the recent reforms in the field of standardization have resulted in a cumulative reduction of more than 80% in the bureaucratic burden in imports, an increase in the number of importers and the volume of imports in significant categories of products under the field of standardization.

This reform strengthens trade and economic relations between Israel and the United States. Adopting an import route based on American regulations places Israel in line with a limited number of countries working to promote regulatory cooperation and advanced trade agreements with the United States. The move is expected to deepen economic cooperation between the countries, expand the scope of trade between them, encourage investments and create new opportunities for importers, manufacturers and businesses on both sides.

The bill is expected to go to the Knesset for final approval.

Minister of Economy and Industry MK Nir Barkat: "What is good for the United States is good for Israel. The law that the committee approved and will be put to a vote in the plenum is a direct continuation of the success of the 'What is good for Europe is good for Israel' reform. This is another historic step that will increase competition and open the Israeli market to quality, diverse and safe imports. This move will not only promote trade with our major partner, the United States, but will bring direct news to the pocket of every citizen: more competition and more power for the Israeli consumer.".

Director General of the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Moti Hagay: "Approval of the reform in the Economic Committee brings Israel closer to a more advanced and flexible regulatory model, which recognizes the standards and requirements of one of the world's leading economies. The move will facilitate the import and marketing of many products, increase business certainty, and reduce costs and market entry times. This is an important step that will strengthen competition, expand consumer choice, and deepen economic cooperation between Israel and the United States.".

[4
65618,1121,65619
post-1056062","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-4","tag-65618","tag-1121","tag-65619
