Maran Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Lando participated last night (Tuesday), as part of the Journey for the World of Torah - in a gathering of thousands in Chicago. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his speech at the event, the Rosh Yeshiva said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\""The Gemara in Tractate Yevamot says: There are three signs in this nation, the merciful, the shy, and those who reciprocate kindness. Merciful, as it is written, "And He gave you mercy, and your mercy, and your increase." Reciprocate kindness, as it is written, and observe the path of Hashem. And the Maharsha explains that the Holy One, blessed be He, gives the measure of mercy in order to have mercy on people, and the path of Hashem is this, the exercise of kindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is the nature of every Jew in the world, when he sees a Jew in trouble, to strive with all his might to help him and rescue him from his trouble, even if he does not know him, and even if he will have no benefit from the rescue that he saves the other Jew. Such is the nature of every Jew, and may He show you mercy and your mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We have come from the Land of Israel to tell you about the trouble that Torah students are in and are in. Yeshivas and kollelim are persecuted by the authorities and courts in the land for no wrongdoing on their part. The troubles are getting worse. Thousands of Torah students in the Land of Israel cannot live as ordinary people are supposed to live. They are being threatened with imprisonment. The authorities are adding to the financial difficulties of every student who studies Torah, and are taking from Torah students all the budgets that those who are not Haredi receive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The young men, who even in normal times are not rich in money, there are many, many of them who, due to the harsh decrees, are unable to pay for their children's educational institutions, and their hands are weak and they literally do not have enough to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The heart of every Jew goes out to the plight of another Jew, and even more so the plight of many Torah students in the Land of Israel, when the authorities withhold the budgets of yeshivas and kollels, and even try to prevent generous people from the Land of Israel from donating to yeshivas and kollels, while the 'World Torah Fund' had not been established by the righteous generous people here in the United States, God forbid, many yeshivas and kollels would be in danger of closing, God forbid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The greatest duty is to save the Torah temples, so that they will not lack the budget to exist, because this is the great foundation of all Jewish existence in the Land of Israel, and it is what protects every Jew everywhere in the world \u2013 the Magna Torah and the Mitzla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And who sees the Torah in trouble, and doesn't run to save the Torah? Even if it's very difficult, and I know and understand that sometimes it's difficult, but what if you see a Torah scroll that, God forbid, falls to the ground, and how could anyone do a reckoning if it's difficult for them?! The compassionate Jewish heart cannot see a Jew in trouble, and cannot see the Torah and the Torah students in trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blessed is he who establishes the words of this Torah, for it is a tree of life to those who hold to it, and its supporters are happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyone who saves the Torah and its teachings in times of trouble will not lose, he will only gain. Anyone who donates will gain twice as much, and if he donates twice as much, he will gain twice as much, and so on. The more you donate to the World Torah Foundation, to maintain the Torah of the Land of Israel, the more you will gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When one supports the Torah, it also gives one the desire to be Torah scholars, for no one is exempt from engaging in Torah matters, and may God help each and every one to be worthy of engaging in Torah and seeing a blessing in its study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
