The small cabinet held a security discussion last night (Sunday) that lasted about five hours - on the agreement being formed between the United States and Iran, and the threat of explosive drones in Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, a heated debate developed between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich about the appropriate response to the drone threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a report on the Ynet website, the Prime Minister demanded protective solutions from the army, and reiterated his instructions to the IDF to work quickly and formulate a response to the severe threat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Smotrich expressed opposition to the defense line - and told Netanyahu: "We can't protect ourselves, we have to take down ten buildings in Dahiyeh in response to every drone.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prime Minister hesitated and wondered: "What are you suggesting? Every time there is a drone, we take down ten buildings? And when there is a drone in Gaza, we take down ten buildings in Gaza? And when there is a drone from Judea and Samaria, we take down ten buildings from Judea and Samaria? And then when there is a drone belonging to a crime family, we take down ten buildings in Ramla?"\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Smotrich replied that he supports this: "Unequivocally yes. War is won through deterrence and exacting a price. Let's protect ourselves, it's October 6th. Draw a diagram for me where you want to stretch the defense nets in the skies of the country. Over Kfar Saba? Also Ra'anana or just Ramla and Lod?"'<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the charged discussion, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir expressed a position supporting escalating the response in order to create deterrence: "You can't work with tweezers, and you need to create a different equation that also includes hitting buildings in Beirut and Tyre in order to deter.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier today, Smotrich visited the Civil Administration of Judea and Samaria and inaugurated the 'Rimon' system for land registration in Judea and Samaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his visit, the minister addressed the drone threat in Lebanon: "This week, I approved a huge budget of approximately two billion NIS for technological solutions to the drone threat. Among other things, the money will allow civilian bodies to offer solutions and ideas outside the box. But the truth is that we will not defeat the drones with defense, but with offense.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added: "For every explosive drone, ten buildings in Beirut should fall. A strategic threat is not responded to simply by defense, but by changing the rules and the equation. We cannot deploy nets over the entire State of Israel, nor can we net it with automatic machine guns. We cannot protect ourselves.
