The State Attorney's Office filed indictments today (Sunday) in a district court against six residents of the south for smuggling weapons and cigarettes from Egypt and Jordan to Israel - among other things, using drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In recent years, and especially since 2024, a significant increase in weapons smuggling through the Jordanian and Egyptian borders using drones has been identified. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\""Flooding" the State of Israel with illegal weapons poses a real danger to public and state security, and makes it easier for criminal and nationalist elements to obtain weapons and commit crimes and terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The indictments, filed by Attorney Rachel Al-Makis of the Southern District Attorney's Office, indicate that the defendants were involved in a large number of smuggling operations, during which dozens of weapons were smuggled into Israel, including machine guns, rifles and pistols, along with prohibited substances and cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of the defendants even traded the weapons after receiving them, selling them for tens of thousands of shekels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For example, in one case, two pistols were sold for 40,000 shekels, and in another case, a MAG machine gun was sold for tens of thousands of shekels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also appears that in one case, approximately 10 kilograms of hashish were smuggled from Egypt to Israel using a drone, which were later sold for tens of thousands of shekels. In another case, prohibited substances that came from Egypt were transferred from Israel to Jordan using a drone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, one of the charges alleged that one of the defendants traveled to Jordan several times and returned to Israel with guns in his vehicle that were disposed of in the wheels of the vehicle, which he transferred to others in exchange for tens of thousands of shekels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the requests for detention until the end of the proceedings, the prosecution stated that the defendants had repeatedly acted to smuggle weapons and drugs, thereby significantly endangering the security of the public and the country's residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the prosecution filed another indictment with the Magistrate's Court against Muhammad Abu Lakimah, 22, of Misgav Shalom, for drug offenses, after he was allegedly involved in an attempted smuggling from Jordan to Israel using a drone. Abu Lakimah was told that this involved smuggling prohibited substances, although weapons were also involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ezzeddine Abu Alqoma, 25, and Yahya Al-Urgan, 26, from Bir Hadaj, Fuad Al-Ziyadat, 30, and Fuad Suarka, 25, from Masouddin Al-Azazma, Ahmed Abu Badr, 22, from Arara, and Hamad Al-Abiyat, 29, from Rahat, were each charged, according to their part, with the offenses of importing weapons, carrying and transporting weapons, trading and purchasing weapons, offenses involving prohibited substances, using a vehicle to commit a crime, attempting to commit offenses with weapons, and violating a legal order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
