Three Arabs will pay 3,340,000 shekels to a Jew who was attacked in the Old City of Jerusalem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ruling by Magistrate Court Judge Nail Mahana was issued in a lawsuit filed by the victim through 'Honenu', after the attackers consistently ignored the court's decisions and did not submit their response for a long time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It should be noted that a previous ruling issued against them in the absence of a defense was overturned in the past following their appeal, but in the current proceedings as well, the rioters chose not to respond to the judicial decisions, which led to the current ruling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his decision, the judge wrote: "In light of the defendants' repeated disregard for the court's decisions and the lack of response to a claim for damages resulting from the defendants' actions for which they were convicted in the criminal proceedings.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attack occurred about a decade ago, in the Old City of Jerusalem. Prof. Avraham Erlich participated in a tour of the Old City of Jerusalem, as part of a tour guide course sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and the University of Haifa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Erlich was traveling on an electric bicycle, and because the group's route passed through places with stairs, Erlich left the group and traveled independently through the streets of the Old City. During the tour, Erlich came to a restaurant owned by Arabs, where he purchased food while conversing with them in English. Erlich left his bicycle outside the restaurant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of the meal, Erlich asked how much he had to pay for the meal he had eaten, and one of the vendors replied that he had to pay 200 shekels. Erlich took out his cell phone, switched it to camera mode, and asked the vendor again, this time in Hebrew, how much the dish cost, and received a response that he had to pay 50 shekels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Arabs who worked at the restaurant arrived and began pushing Erlich and warning him to stop taking pictures, while one of them snatched the cell phone from his hand and broke the cell phone screen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Erlich fled the restaurant, but retraced his steps to retrieve his bicycle. When Erlich entered the restaurant, one of the attackers attacked him and began beating him with a stick. He was joined by other people with sticks, some with baseball bats, who began beating him on the head and all over his body. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Arabs then dragged him to a side alley while continuing to beat him. After a long time, Erlich managed to escape from the scene, and as he fled the scene, begging for help, Arabs on the street took advantage of the situation and also tried to beat him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ehrlich called the police, who helped him collect his bicycle and identify the attackers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result of the attack, Erlich suffered bruises on his forehead, leg, and hand, and since the incident, he has suffered from severe symptoms of mental trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder and has not returned to work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The three attackers were convicted in criminal proceedings for the attack, and were given suspended prison sentences and ordered to pay restitution to Erlich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Attorney Haim Bleicher of Mhonenu, who represents Ehrlich, welcomed the decision: "In the past, there were those who thought it was permissible to violently attack Jews and not pay any price for it. We want to completely eradicate these thoughts from our country.
