1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Shas Chairman MK Aryeh Deri sent the lawsuit to Israel Tropper, a resident of the ultra-Orthodox city of Modi'in Illit, he certainly wasn't expecting such a scathing defense. If he had known, he might have given up on the "pleasure" in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Channel 12 broadcast a scathing advertisement, Haaretz newspaper also reported - but none of this led Shas to sue. It was actually Tropper, "the little man," who caused the holy movement to make the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Does Shas regret it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One cloudy day, the young man Israel Tropper found himself facing a lawsuit from the Shas party and Aryeh Deri, whose demands were: "an apology from the defendant" and also money - and a lot of it. "Total monetary compensation in the amount of 320,000 shekels plus interest and linkage from the date the lawsuit was filed until the date of actual payment, as well as legal costs and attorney's fees.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About what and why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\""The issue of this lawsuit is the publication of serious, false and incendiary defamation, in which the defendant attributed to plaintiff 2 (-Aryeh Deri) serious criminal threats against Maran Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef and in effect called for caution against Haredi members of Knesset, while presenting them as a target for physical harm - all in a wide-ranging broadcast on Channel 12.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawsuit describes the demonstrations in front of MK Yoav Ben-Tzur - and then the interview that Trooper gave on the 'Rafi Reshef' program on Channel 12, and concludes: "In the context of the interview, without any pretense, the defendant spread false and slanderous statements against the plaintiffs with the deliberate intention and intent to harm the plaintiffs, to defame them, to humiliate them, and to increase the incitement against them, using lies and fabricated stories that border on a real blood libel.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\""The words of vanity and lies crossed every line when Plaintiff 2 (-Deri) was presented by the defendant as someone who threatened the Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef and simulated the plaintiff's actions in a way that made it clear to the viewer that the plaintiff had taken part in violent and therefore criminal actions against Rabbi Yosef.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the plaintiffs, "The defendant's serious statements that attribute to the plaintiffs, without any wrongdoing, serious criminal activity against a senior public figure in Shas and the Torah world and even portray them as helpless, are lies and empty words: 'After a person threatens a rabbi, he can no longer continue to be in the political system,' and he further elaborated - 'If someone had entered the house of Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef and beaten him to death, you agree with me that by sunset he would have become a 100-piece puzzle. If a person enters the house of Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef and threatens him, an elderly man of 75 years of age, he is alone, he threatens him to such a level, 'We will close you, you idiots,' I will kill you, I will haunt you. He is alone. This is worse than beatings." .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is part of the interview:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Israel Trooper: This is definitely a step up and I'm telling you the truth, I would really recommend to any Haredi Knesset member not to go near yeshiva students these days, they are very angry, they feel like he is persecuting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rafi Reshef: What, are you actually coming and telling the Haredi Knesset members, I mean the ministers, Aryeh Deri for that matter, to watch out for yourselves? Is that the message?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trooper: Look, Aryeh Deri is a different story. After the affair of threats against Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef exploded, he certainly needs to be careful. The public is hot on him, it's not related. Aryeh Deri is another story. After a person threatens a rabbi, he can no longer continue to be in the political system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reshef: But you receive expressions that sound like a traitor about him, meaning it's clear to you that he no longer represents you, all he's interested in is entering the government, and you'll do everything to prevent that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trooper: If you ask me if we believe, I'll tell you the truth. We believe that Aryeh Deri is working with all his might, soul, and energy for his seat alone. That's our belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reshef: Will you be able to prevent this? That's the question. His return to the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trooper: Look, I'm saying a lot more than that. I'm not talking about his return to the government, I'm talking about his return to political life in general. If someone had entered Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's house and beaten him to death, do you agree with me that by sunset he would have become a 100-piece puzzle? If a person enters Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef's house and threatens him, an elderly man of 75, he is alone, he threatens him on such a level as 'We'll close your doors, I'll ruin your life'...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked by the interviewer what the source of his words was regarding the threats against Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, Tropper replied: "There is one person who is the most apolitical there is, his name is Rabbi Yaakov Adas, from whom I heard this. And I trust him, he is about 16 times more brilliant than Einstein.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plaintiffs claim: Even before the interview, Rabbi Yaakov Adas denied the things quoted in the recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beginning of the defense brief, filed by attorney Pini Kalman, claiming that this is a 'silence lawsuit' - and the evidence: Shas and Deri did not sue Channel 12 or Haaretz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is another significant claim: I spoke the truth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\""Deri is acting against the defendant in his lawsuit, as it is alleged and known that he is acting against the rabbis, by means of threats, intimidation and silencing. Deri is doing this so that he can continue to try to control by force the activities of Shas and, contrary to the opinion of the rabbis, in everything related to the recruitment of yeshiva students.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The defense also reveals a trope of harm to Trooper himself. "Until the defendant's statements were published, the latter studied at the 'For My Brother' institutions run by Shmuel Gabbay, who is a close associate of Deri. Due to the publication of the defendant's statements, he was expelled from the kollel where he studied, with Shmuel Gabbay making his return conditional on him apologizing and signing a commitment that the defendant would never speak about Shas MKs again.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\""It is possible to see," the defense claims, "the improper and prohibited methods of operation that Deri practices (himself and\/or through one of his associates and\/or loyalists).".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there is also a reference to the recording incident of Rabbi Yaakov Adas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, the defendant claims, the words were not published on his own initiative, "they were not brought from his fevered mind, but he heard it from the mouth of Rabbi Ades." They were also brought to light in major media channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is what Rabbi Adas said, as quoted on Channel 12 (and Shas did not sue for this): "He (Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef) was forced to stop cooperating on this issue, because Aryeh (Deri) is threatening him very, very severely if he continues to fight against the draft... Aryeh is threatening him that he will take away the satellite (broadcasting his weekly lesson) and give it to David Yosef... He is afraid.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rabbi Adas continues and says: "I'll tell you what *** told me, he says at one stage, he (Rabbi Yitzhak) has a Torah scroll in the house, he takes out a Torah scroll and curses Aryeh Deri. And he said, 'I can't do it anymore.' They threaten him with severe threats." As stated, according to the announcement on Channel 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If this were a lie, the defendant claims, "the plaintiffs would have been expected to file a similar lawsuit against Channel 12, the N12 website and the Haaretz website, as well as the other media outlets in which the statements were distributed," since the distribution there is "tens of times greater" than the interview the defendant gave on the current affairs program at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the very least, "the plaintiffs were expected to take action to remove the articles in which 'false' things were published," as they claimed in the lawsuit. And the articles, if you didn't understand, are still up in the air...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So what really happened with the Rabbi Yaakov Adas recordings? Get the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview that Rabbi Ades held with Moshe Ben Lulu - in November 2025 - he made it clear that one should not refer to the things and denials that are published in his name and that only what he says on the phone line of his classes - "or with Moshe Ben Lulu" should be taken into account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\""All other things are considered non-existent," the rabbi clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And regarding Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, Rabbi Ades said in the same interview: "It's hard for me to avoid answering that he says and repeats every day that he is a billion percent against the law. All the letters he writes are under duress that he has no strength to handle... I don't want to say the names of the people who come to pressure him, over and over and over again wasting his time for hours, getting him out of his mind.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2026, about three months ago, Tropper spoke with Rabbi Adas (a recording and transcript are attached to the defense brief). Rabbi Adas says that various representatives were sent to him, asking him to sign a document in which he would declare that the recordings published in his name were published by an impersonator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He cooperated with this and explained in the conversation why: "due to pressure and intimidation by the prosecutors and\/or someone on their behalf.". <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when he was approached to physically sign a document to file the lawsuit, he refused, making it clear that he would not agree to lie to the court. "Once there is a lawsuit, I am not allowed to lie to them.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you weren't shocked enough, here's another story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One day, a conversation took place between a Jew named Israel Marlich and Rabbi Yaakov Ades. The conversation and its transcript are attached to the defense brief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From this conversation, it can be understood that the fact that the rabbi claimed that his recording was "imitation" stemmed from the fact that the plaintiffs and\/or someone on their behalf threatened to stop assisting in the care of the rabbi's father. In a conversation with him, the rabbi confirms that the letter he wrote to Deri stemmed from "pikuach nefesh" - fear for his father's health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the court judges will have to decide what the truth is - who is right and who, if anyone, should pay whom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what is far more disturbing are the facts. If they are true, even partially, they are very disturbing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
