Naftali Bennett arrived last night (Friday night) to visit a Bnei Brak restaurant, to film one of the 'Parliament' videos he has been distributing on social media in recent weeks, as part of the 'Together' election campaign.
A commotion broke out at the scene when a group of ultra-Orthodox Jews called him derogatory names.
The 'Behad' spokeswoman reported that two objects were thrown at Bennett.
According to the recording, Bennett was not injured by what appeared to be a drink can thrown at him, but jumped in panic, calling out: "Who is this?""
The police and security guards started running after the guy who threw the can, and he was detained for questioning.
Bennett then confronted right-wing activist Mordechai David - telling him: "Go enlist, because when I become prime minister, you won't see a shekel.".
The 'Behad' party said: "Bennett held a 'parliament' with a number of yeshiva students and the conversation was conducted in a good and businesslike manner. After about half an hour, a group of political activists arrived at the scene. Two objects thrown at Bennett hit the head of one of his staff members. She was treated at the scene by a Magen David Adom team and released without receiving further medical treatment. Bennett later spoke with her and heard that she was feeling well.".
The police said: "During a visit by a public figure to a restaurant in Bnei Brak, a passerby threw an object that did not harm the person. Police officers from the Bnei Brak Ramat Gan station who were present at the scene immediately arrested the suspect and he is now being brought in for questioning at the police station.".
In the afternoon, the Tel Aviv District Court accepted the suspect's appeal and shortened his detention until Sunday. This was after the city's Magistrate's Court had earlier extended his detention until Monday.
The investigation continues.
