Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's defense attorneys are seeking to summon former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to testify in court.
The defense team is requesting that Mandelblit's testimony be held only shortly before the elections, on October 11-12 and 18-22.
The defense team's request to the court reads: "The court is requested to issue an order subpoenaing former Attorney General Mandelblit to testify in the proceedings, on October 11, October 12, and October 18 to 22.".
Mandelblit, who previously served as Attorney General, decided during his term to open investigations against the prime minister and later also to file indictments in the "Alphabet Files.".
Media figure Yinon Magal responded: "On January 28, 2020, Attorney General Mandelblit ran to court to file the indictment against Netanyahu, while the prime minister was on a diplomatic visit to Washington to present Trump's 'deal of the century.'".
""The account will be closed next month, just days before the elections, when that same Mandelblit will stand on the witness stand in the trial, and will finally be forced to give answers. What a wonderful closing of the circle.".
