A Sheba from Nablus stole a car, ran over a 48-year-old cyclist to death in Tel Aviv - and overturned

Tel Aviv police today (Thursday) arrested a 24-year-old man, a resident of the Nablus district, suspected of stealing a vehicle and fatally hitting a cyclist while he was driving near Yunitzman Street in Tel Aviv.

The report of the accident was received this morning at the MDA call center at 08:22. Medics and paramedics who were called to the scene found the cyclist, a 48-year-old man, unconscious and without a pulse or breathing. An overturned vehicle was found on the road next to him.

Rescue forces provided the cyclist with life-saving medical treatment, including massages, CPR, and medication, and evacuated him to Ichilov Hospital in critical condition while continuing CPR. Sadly, doctors were later forced to declare him dead.

David Amichai, a paramedic in the MDA motorcycle unit, said: "This is a shocking car accident. We saw the cyclist unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing, and an overturned vehicle next to him. We began CPR operations that included massages, breathing, and administering medication, and evacuated him in an intensive care unit to the hospital in critical condition, while we continued to fight for his life.".

Yarkon Region police officers who arrived at the scene arrested the suspect. A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing equipment suspected of being used to steal vehicles, including an engine computer, a hammer, and demolition equipment.

Police traffic investigators collected evidence at the scene and began investigating the circumstances of the incident.

ZAKA reported: ZAKA volunteers were called to Younitzman Street in Tel Aviv following a report of a 48-year-old cyclist who was run over and killed by a vehicle.

Eran Kozhi, commander of the Special Missions Unit at the ZAKA who is handling the scene: "The ZAKA call center rushed me to the scene of the incident. This is a 48-year-old cyclist who went out for a morning ride, and according to what was reported here at the scene, a police officer who stole a car hit him and ran him over to death.
With the assistance of additional ZAKA volunteers, we assist the traffic examiners working at the scene, and at the end we will collect the findings left at the scene.
