A serious security incident has been under investigation in recent weeks by the police and the Shin Bet: A 19-year-old young man from Kafr Qassem, who served in the national service as a firefighter at one of the fire stations in the central region, was arrested about a month ago on suspicion of promoting terrorist activity, planning a series of attacks, and establishing a terrorist cell.

According to a report this evening (Monday) by Lee Ayish on the i24 channel, according to the findings of the investigation, at least one of the attacks planned by the young man was supposed to be carried out at a strategic site to which he arrived as part of his duties.

It is suspected that he identified the location as a possible target and utilized the access and familiarity he acquired through his service as a firefighter to advance the attack plan.

The investigation also revealed that the young man began to be interested in terrorism at the age of 16.

Since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, it is suspected that he has undergone a significant radicalization process and has been looking for ways to harm the country.

As part of his activities, the young man established contact with foreign elements, including Hamas elements and an element affiliated with Iranian intelligence. According to the suspicion, he sought combat instructors, downloaded instructions for making explosives, and even attempted to make explosive devices from various materials.

The investigation also raised suspicions that the young man had worked to establish a terrorist cell and even tried to recruit two additional acquaintances from Kafr Qassem to it.

The two were arrested and held for about two weeks, but sufficient evidence has not yet been established in their case to file indictments.

In a raid by the Shin Bet and Border Police on the young man's home, airsoft guns and a large amount of training equipment were seized.

After about a month in detention, an indictment is expected to be filed against him tomorrow.
