The police announced this morning that a report was received yesterday regarding a person who was found inside a buried trash can in the Gilo neighborhood.
Following the incident, Moriah police officers opened an investigation into the circumstances of his fall into the bin, during which they collected findings and documentation that raised the suspicion that the victim's brother was involved in the incident.
He was arrested and questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.
Later today, he will be brought to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a hearing to extend his detention.
Israel Fire and Rescue reported last night that firefighters rescued a man during Shabbat who was trapped in a buried trap in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem. Firefighters from the Beersheba station were called to the scene, with the assistance of a team from the YALAM - the Special Rescue Unit from the Ha'uma station.
The forces that arrived at the scene detected, using a gas detector, that there was a lack of oxygen inside the can.
According to police officials present at the scene, the man was dealing with a mental health issue. Due to his condition and the risk he faced, firefighters had to convince him to wear a rescue hood, which provided him with breathing air.
At the same time, the teams worked to stabilize the situation and flow air into the bin using dedicated equipment, until the gas concentrations significantly decreased.
Subsequently, a crane was ordered from the Jerusalem Municipality to lift the bin, which, together with its contents, weighed an estimated one ton.
After lifting the bin, firefighters rescued the young man alive. Rescue forces called to the scene provided him with medical treatment and he was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in moderate condition.
