Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir visited the land training center today (Sunday) as part of the General Staff surprise test 'Dawn 2.0', which was designed to test the IDF's readiness for a surprise war scenario.
The test examines the forces' handling of an explosive, complex, and wide-ranging multi-sectoral event.
The Chief of Staff was accompanied by the Head of the Operations Directorate, Major General Itzik Cohen, the Commander of the Southern Command, Major General Yaniv Asor, the Commander of the Land Training Center, Brigadier General Yaniv Barot, the Commander of the 98th Division, Brigadier General Manny Liberty, and the Commander of the Gaza Division, Brigadier General Liron Batitto. Additional commanders also participated in the visit.
Zamir closely examined the readiness of the forces and units and the manner in which readiness and reserves were activated in the practiced scenario. At the same time, the decision-making processes and operational response at all levels of the IDF were examined.
The test is being held as part of an ongoing process to strengthen the competence and readiness of fighters and commanders. The IDF said that during it, the implementation of operational plans is being examined alongside the lessons learned from fighting in the various sectors and from the events of October 7, as part of preparations for the holiday period.
Zamir: "Today's exercise is another step in implementing the lessons of October 7th and in examining the IDF's readiness for a surprise war scenario. We are examining the readiness of the forces and demanding that they meet the highest standard, at all levels - from the soldier in the position and at the outpost, through the operational commanders and headquarters to the General Staff; from the soldier in the field to the Chief of Staff.".
""We are changing, repairing, and strengthening everything that is needed to be better prepared for any scenario.".
He emphasized: "Today's test is also a message to our enemies - the IDF is capable, prepared and alert to defend the State of Israel, and is also ready to initiate and attack anyone who tries to harm us. Our statement is clear - anyone who tries to harm the State of Israel and its citizens will meet a determined, prepared and alert IDF, and will pay an immediate and very heavy price for it.".
