The High Court of Justice decided today (Thursday), by a majority of two judges to one, to freeze the MHASH law, which was led by Justice Minister Yariv Levin.
Justices Yitzhak Amit and Dafna Barak-Erez supported the decision, while Justice Noam Solberg dissented.
Political commentator Amit Segal wrote: "We have reached the stage where Knesset legislation is frozen at the stroke of a vote.".
Minister Yariv Levin responded: "The High Court's decision is proof of the frustration felt by a handful of High Court judges, who are trying to cling to the horns of the altar. After losing their control over the Judicial Selection Committee and the Judicial Complaints Commissioner, the political minority judges in the Supreme Court are trying to protect the failed institution of the Supreme Court - in a "friend protects friend" manner.".
He added: "The elections are about deciding who will appoint ten Supreme Court justices in the next term, and put an end to the rule of a handful of left-wing judges in our lifetime: Me as Minister of Justice in a national government led by Benjamin Netanyahu, or Minister of Justice in the left-wing government of Gadi Eisenkot and Yair Golan."
