Degel Hatorah Chairman, MK Moshe Gafni, participated today (Thursday) in a meeting of the heads of regional councils with the heads of the parties, which was held at the regional government center ahead of the elections - and harshly criticized the professional ranks at the Ministry of Finance.
MK Gafni told the council heads: "I have never been bought into sectoralism, and make no mistake. There have been many times when finance officials have threatened me that if I support the regional councils, agriculture, and issues that are important to you, they will freeze funds for yeshivas. I did not give in then and I will not give in in the future.".
He added: "I have always supported you and will continue to assist you. The regional and agricultural councils are an important and critical pillar in the State of Israel. The next government will need to strengthen regional government and promote real reform that will give the councils the tools and resources they need, and I will assist you.".
