Increased security preparedness at Israel's exit crossings led to the thwarting of several illegal exit attempts by Haredi 'deserters' - who were on their way to Rabbi Nachman's Zion in Uman, ahead of Rosh Hashanah.

According to an official announcement from the Airports Authority, security personnel at Ben Gurion Airport today (Wednesday) located and arrested six ultra-Orthodox men who are required to do military service, who attempted to leave the country illegally.

The statement said: "Six passengers who attempted to infiltrate abroad through Ben Gurion Airport were apprehended by airport security teams in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.".

According to the announcement, "two of them were caught in Terminal 1 and four more in Terminal 3. The six were transferred to the Population and Immigration Authority, and upon examination, it became clear that they had draft orders/civil detention orders against them, preventing their departure from the country.".

At the same time, there was an increase in the number of delays for dozens of Bratslavs who wanted to take off for Uman ahead of Rosh Hashanah. The passengers were detained at Ben Gurion Airport after it became clear during the systems that departure delay orders had been issued against them because they had not reported to the draft offices.

Another group of Breslavs who were trying to cross into Egyptian territory, on their way to Uman, was also stopped at the Taba border crossing. However, according to reports, dozens of 'deserters' managed to slip away on their way to their desired destination.
