US President Donald Trump threatened a strong response against Iran on Monday after Tehran launched ballistic missiles at US forces in Jordan in response to the US strike on Lark Island. "We're going to hit them hard," Trump said in an interview with Fox News. "There will be a response.".
Along with the threat of another military response, Trump left open the possibility of renewed talks with Tehran. "They want to meet so badly," he said, but he added: "I just don't know if we can count on an agreement with them." The president added that the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran "are starting to have a very strong impact.".
Shortly before, President Trump also sharpened his tone on the social network Truth - declaring: "Iran is officially a failed nation. It is dead!""
Trump wrote: "They have no navy, no air force, and no currency." The American president added that "they don't pay their soldiers or police, inflation is at 300%, and their leadership is in complete disarray and incapable of representing the country properly.".
He added and claimed that "more than 100,000 protesters were killed in Iran. They should be tried for war crimes against humanity." It should be noted that these are higher numbers than those known in Western intelligence communities.
The Iranian president said earlier today: "We are working towards an agreement. Continuing the war does not serve Iran and the region.".
