Although President Donald Trump has refrained from publicly declaring support for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the time being, political commentator Amit Segal reveals in his weekly column in Israel Hayom that Washington is preparing a dramatic move for the Likud in the Gaza Strip.
""Hamas has apparently received a big prize," Segal writes. "Jared Kushner met with senior figures from the murderous terrorist organization, which murdered and kidnapped dozens of Americans on October 7. The Americans have an answer: Last year we met with them to rescue 56 hostages. Now - the kidnapped Gaza Strip.
""We are not as naive as you think, they keep repeating themselves. We kept repeating ourselves and saying that Hamas will not have weapons, and will not have control over the Strip.".
According to Segal, behind the scenes, the president's people are working on a move that will provide Likud with a dramatic victory image, even before voters reach the polls.
""The White House is angry with Netanyahu, but has complied with most of his demands," he writes. "Trump himself has ostentatiously avoided declaring support for him in the elections for months. But his people are preparing a victory picture for the Likud: handing over weapons in the Strip, to the Americans, before the elections. Payment, in the form of a partial withdrawal, will be on credit, after the polls close.".
