Where is the money? The Bnei Brak Municipality ended 2025 with a huge deficit of 80 million shekels, and already in the first quarter of 2026 it accumulated a current deficit of 49 million shekels.

According to a report by Tuvia Yagelnik on Galei Tzahal, the Interior Ministry is demanding that the Bnei Brak municipality make "binding and painful decisions" as soon as possible in order to achieve a budget balance.

The Interior Ministry is threatening that until they do this, the municipality's requests for personal contracts and salary upgrades will not be approved: "We will take steps that will have significant consequences for the management of the municipality.".

The municipality must present an approved plan to the Ministry of the Interior by October 11th, to avoid further painful steps.

As reported in Haredim 10, the Bnei Brak municipality has a budget for refreshments and food for Mayor Hanoch Seibert, in the amount of approximately 3,000 NIS per day,

Bnei Brak Municipality's response: "The municipality will end the year with a financial balance within the approved financial framework. During this period, large-scale infrastructure and sanitation projects are being carried out in the city, amounting to hundreds of millions of shekels, for the benefit of residents, under budgetary control that has been implemented in recent times.".

""The municipality is studying the details of the letter and will respond to what is said in it.".
