The Democrats Party sent a letter to senior law enforcement officials claiming that Shin Bet chief David Zini is "knowingly abandoning Yair Golan's safety and endangering his life.".

According to a report by Yoav Krakowsky on Reshet B, the letter - which was sent to the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Police Commissioner Danny Levy, attorney Gali Baharav Meyara, and even to Zini himself - claims that "Golan is one of the most threatened party leaders in Israel.".

Attached to the letter were documents containing explicit threats of murder against him, some of which were harsh responses that explicitly threatened his life on social media.

In addition to the comments, a letter attached to a brick thrown at the News 12 offices is also attached, containing an explicit threat to Golan's life.

""Zini chooses to turn a blind eye while Yair Golan's blood is being spilled in public by the 'poison machine,'" the letter claims. "How is it possible that the Netanyahu family is granted an unprecedented security blanket without any criteria of 'symbol of power,' while the chairman of an Israeli party, who is under real assassination threats, remains at the mercy of potential assassins? This is exactly what it looks like when politics tramples on the gatekeepers.".

Col. (res.) Ronen Cohen, head of the Advisory Committee for Personal Security, dismissed the claims.

""First of all, we have to behave like a normal country, a state of law. We turn to the National Security Council - and then a committee convenes," he explained. "This is media spin - the Shin Bet is not a toy and it is not Zini's authority to determine who is secure and who is not. They are failing him, maybe that is their intention.".

Cohen explained that the committee will meet on Monday, and will also discuss the request about Golan, if it is submitted. "The professional matter is sacred. If, God forbid, a hair falls from the head of Yair Golan or Eisenkot, I will not be able to live like this.".

The police responded: "The Israel Police is conducting situation assessments for those under threat in accordance with procedure. Naturally, and in accordance with the sensitivity of the information, we will not provide further details.".
