A letter of complaint sent by Yair Netanyahu, the prime minister's son, to the police commissioner, the head of the Shin Bet, and attorney Gali Baharav Meyara, reveals new details about the assassination attempt planned by Iranian elements.
The letter claimed, among other things, that the Shin Bet security guards who accompanied Netanyahu in Miami were forced to deal with "a squad of Iranian terrorists at the doorstep.".
The letter was sent as part of Yair Netanyahu's demand to open a criminal and security investigation against Haaretz journalist Uri Misgav. Netanyahu claims that Misgav's social media posts revealed his place of residence, security details, and movement habits, and that the information reached hostile elements.
According to the letter, in the background of the publications, "terrorists sent by Iranian intelligence physically arrived at the door of the house at the address in question in Miami" - "and carried out a sudden and targeted assassination attempt against Yair Netanyahu.".
Another detail that appears in the letter concerns the manner in which, according to Netanyahu, the incident ended. "Only by a miracle, and thanks to the immediate resourcefulness and professionalism of the security guards of the Shin Bet's Personal Security Unit, was a major national disaster averted and an international assassination attempt on the son of the Prime Minister of Israel thwarted.".
Netanyahu links the alleged assassination attempt to the information published by Misgav.
According to the letter, "the disclosure of the exact location, details of the structure, and tactical security arrangements" did not remain on social media, but rather the information was "received and marked directly by the enemy's intelligence and terror systems.".
The letter alleged that Misgav published Netanyahu's exact residence in Miami, including the name of the building, the apartment number and the floor. It was also alleged that details about the Shin Bet's Unit 730, the number of security guards stationed there and Netanyahu's travel habits were published.
Attorney Uriel Nizri, Netanyahu's attorney, claims that this is not an isolated publication but rather a "systematic, consistent and ongoing" activity.
The letter claimed that the published information provided the enemy with a "road map" and details about operational weaknesses, endangering both Netanyahu and the Shin Bet security guards.
Following these words, Netanyahu is demanding that a criminal-security investigation be opened against Misgav and even his arrest. "In light of the great seriousness of the actions against my client, we will demand that a criminal investigation be opened immediately, that the suspect be arrested, and that
"His continued detention will be requested until the end of the legal proceedings at the end of the days' detention phase, taking into account the seriousness of the incident.".
The letter attributes alleged offenses to Misgav, including aiding the enemy in war, providing information to the enemy with the intent to harm state security, intentionally endangering life, and harming the security of protected individuals.
Netanyahu also demands an investigation into the alleged violation of his privacy, which he says included spying and monitoring of his movements and private life and the publication of personal information.
At the end of the letter, his lawyer demands "the full extent of the law against all those involved - perpetrators, aides, senders or those who turn a blind eye" - and announced that he wishes to treat Netanyahu as a victim of a crime and receive regular updates on the progress of the investigation, the arrest of suspects and a possible decision to close the case or file an indictment.
He also requested the details of the officer who would be in charge of the investigation, in order to hand over additional materials that he claims are in his possession.
