Suspicion of systematic document forgery for drivers whose licenses have been revoked: Police arrested a lawyer from Tira this morning (Tuesday) on suspicion of forging documents intended to allow disqualified drivers to continue driving.
The arrest was made after in recent weeks the Central District's Fraud and Cyber Crime Unit, in collaboration with investigators from the Traffic Division, conducted an undercover investigation against a lawyer in his 60s, a resident of Tira, who represents clients in the traffic field.
The lawyer is suspected of forging numerous documents for drivers whose licenses were revoked, in order to create a false representation to the courts, the police, and the licensing office that the drivers had surrendered their licenses and served the disqualification period imposed on them - while in reality they continued to drive during the disqualification period.
This morning, as the investigation moved into the open phase, the police arrested the suspect at his home and searched his home and office as part of the evidence collection.
Later today, investigators from the Central District Fraud Unit intend to bring the suspect to court for a hearing, requesting to extend his detention in accordance with the needs of the investigation.
