Defense Minister Israel Katz sharply attacked critics of the Israeli attack on the Abu a-Duhur Air Force Base in northwestern Syria this morning (Sunday), against the backdrop of the developing conflict between Israel and Turkey over the Turkish military presence in the neighboring country.

""Initially, some commentators and event hosts who cling to the margins of their definition as journalists, and some opposition leaders, said that the attack on Syria was unnecessary and was carried out for political reasons," said Katz.

"After it was clarified that the IDF recommended the attack based on clear intelligence information, and that the political echelon carefully considered and accepted the decision - they moved to an alternative version: 'The statements of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense to Erdogan and the warnings that we will not allow Turkey to establish itself in Syria and endanger Israel's security - are unnecessary and dangerous.'".

He taunted: "We must not upset Erdogan, as if we were going on some evening walk with a light breeze in the treetops that has nothing to do with anything - and Erdogan is actually some kind of Zionist enthusiast.".

Katz emphasized: "It's fortunate that they don't influence anything today, and we hope very much for the sake of Israel's security that they won't reach positions of influence with such positions in the future.".
