Fighters from the 890th Paratrooper Battalion operated last night (Friday night) to arrest terror suspects in Jenin, during which they killed a terrorist who tried to stab them.
According to an IDF spokesman, during the entry of forces into one of the houses in the area for the purpose of the arrest, the terrorist Fathi Hazem, a former senior officer in the Palestinian security apparatus, jumped towards the fighters and tried to stab them. One of the fighters opened fire on him, killing him.
There were no casualties among IDF forces in the incident.
The terrorist who was eliminated is the father of the terrorist Ra'ad Hazam, who carried out the shooting attack at the 'Ilka' bar on Dizengoff Street in Tel Aviv in April 2022. The attack killed Tomer Morad and with them Magini Ya'd, childhood friends from Kfar Saba, and Barak Lufan Ya'd, coach of the Israeli kayaking team and father of three.
A security source told Ynet that Fathi Hazem - the father of the terrorist who carried out the attack on Dizengoff Street - has since incited against Israel, gone underground and a manhunt was underway for him.
Hazem previously served as the commander of the Palestinian National Security in Nablus, a position equivalent in the IDF to a brigade commander.
He became a Palestinian symbol, photographed giving inflammatory speeches while surrounded by gunmen from Palestinian terrorist organizations and the incitement.
