Beginning of the 'Time of Elul': The graduation ceremony for the Shas was held at the Lev Eliyahu Yeshiva Hall in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Jerusalem by one of the yeshiva students, the young man Moshe Amar Halevi, in memory of the Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Zechariah, on the eleventh month since his passing.
The ceremony was attended by the head of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva in the Geula neighborhood, the rabbi of the Hagar Tzedakah, the rabbi of Ramat Shlomo, the rabbi of the Hagar Deitch, the head of the Lev Eliyahu Yeshiva, the rabbi of the Hagar Hazan, and the mishgachih of the yeshiva, the rabbi of the Hagar Dabush, the rabbi of the Hagar Tzadok, the rabbi of Bnei Ayish, and the rabbi of the Hagar Tzadok.
The Garich Sofer constantly strengthened the yeshiva students in Torah during these days, when they were trying to weaken.
Rabbi Tzedakah attacked the draft decree: "We need to make sure that those who don't come to yeshivas go to prison. If we want to be saved from the enemies, we need to engage in Torah. The fools today say, whoever is in yeshivas - prison. Fools, on the contrary, they need to make a law, everyone should go to yeshivas, everyone. We are in a period of the Messiah's punishment, and the salvation from the Messiah's punishment is only engaging in Torah, as they do here at the 'Lev Eliyahu' yeshivas, finishing the Shas, you should have said, my teachers and my rabbis, given the situation, everyone goes to yeshivas, no one goes out on the streets.".
The Grand Rabbi of Tzedakah added that "if the soldiers knew what saves them, what the power of Torah is, they would enter the yeshiva in the middle of the seder and beg and plead: 'Have mercy on us, have mercy, don't stop learning for a moment,' that's what they should do.".
The Gaon Rabbi Ovadia Hazan, Rosh Yeshiva Lev Eliyahu, noted the dedication of his father-in-law, Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Zechariah, zt"l, to the study of Torah.
