Rabbi Zebadiah Cohen, Chief Rabbi of the city of Tel Aviv, was sworn in today (Sunday) at the President's Office to serve as a member of the Council of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.
President Yitzhak Herzog congratulated Rabbi Cohen: "Rabbi Zebadiah Cohen is a distinguished scholar, a man of halakhah, and a public leader of great stature. His unique path, which combines deep loyalty to the world of Torah and halakhah alongside an enlightened outlook and approach that brings the entire population of Israel closer together, is important news for the Chief Rabbinate.".
Rabbi Zebadiah Cohen thanked the president: "For me, it has special meaning to declare allegiance here, before the grandson of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, the great Rabbi Yitzhak Isaac Halevi Herzog zt"l. In my halachic rulings, I am often privileged to quote from the Torah and rulings of Rabbi Herzog, who was one of the greatest rabbis and poskim of his generation.".
""I accept the mission as a member of the Chief Rabbinate Council out of great responsibility, and out of a desire to work to strengthen the status of the Rabbinate, to increase the honor of the Torah, and to bring the hearts of all of Israel closer to the Torah and tradition.".
